Terms of use

By using this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the site after we post a revised version means you accept the change. Material changes affecting enrolled students or active subscribers will be communicated by email.

Intellectual property

All content on this site — text, graphics, logos, photographs, course materials, and the design and arrangement of the site itself — is owned by The Rising Gazette or used under license, and is protected by United States and international copyright law. "The Rising Gazette" name and logo are our marks and may not be used without written permission.

You may view, download, and print pages for personal, non-commercial use. You may not republish, redistribute, sell, or create derivative works from our content, or use it to train machine learning or artificial intelligence systems, without our prior written permission.

Course materials. Materials provided to enrolled students are licensed for that student's personal educational use only. They may not be copied, shared, posted online, or used to teach others.

Student work. Writers retain copyright in the articles they submit. By submitting an article, the writer and their parent or legal guardian grant The Rising Gazette a non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free license to edit, publish, reproduce, distribute, and archive the work in the periodical and in our promotional materials, in print and electronically. Writers remain free to republish their own work elsewhere.

Third-party images. Some photographs on this site are licensed stock images and remain the property of their respective copyright holders. They may not be extracted from our site or reused.

Editorial statement and corrections

The Rising Gazette is a community periodical written primarily by young people who have completed our course. Articles are reviewed and edited before publication, but the views expressed in a signed article belong to its author and are not necessarily those of The Rising Gazette, its staff, or its sponsors.

We take accuracy seriously and we correct our mistakes. If you believe something we published is factually wrong, email contact@risinggazette.org with the issue date, the article, and the specific error. We will investigate and, where a correction is warranted, publish it in a following issue.

If you are the subject of coverage and wish to respond, we welcome letters and will consider them for publication, subject to space and editorial discretion.

Course enrollment and purchases

Enrollment, subscriptions, and other purchases are made through our online store and are subject to the terms presented at checkout, including the following:

  • Enrollment must be completed by a parent or legal guardian on behalf of a student under 18.
  • The course fee is stated at checkout and is payable in advance.
  • Cancellations and refunds: A full refund is available if requested at least 48 hours before the student's first attended class. After a student has attended one or more classes, fees are non-refundable, though we will work with families facing hardship. Contact us at contact@risinggazette.org.
  • Class schedule changes: Dates and locations may change. We will notify enrolled families by email as far in advance as possible. If we cancel a class outright and cannot offer a reasonable alternative date, we will refund the proportional fee.
  • Subscriptions: Subscription terms, pricing, and cancellation are described at checkout.
  • Publication is not guaranteed. Completing the course entitles a graduate to submit articles; it does not guarantee that any submission will be published. Editorial decisions rest with The Rising Gazette.
  • Writer compensation. A portion of subscription revenue from an issue is shared among the writers published in that issue, as described in the materials provided at the end of the course. Amounts vary with subscription volume and are not guaranteed in advance.

Classes held in person

Our classes are held at physical locations. Parents and guardians are responsible for their student's transportation to and from class and for their student's conduct while attending. We reserve the right to remove a student from the course for behavior that disrupts the learning of others, with a prorated refund at our discretion.
